Solid Ink Horitomo Shu is a rich, traditional red-orange tattoo ink inspired by the historic colour palettes of Japanese irezumi. Developed and tested by renowned Japanese tattoo artist Horitomo, this distinctive shade captures the warmth and character of classic Japanese tattooing.
Shu has long been an important colour in traditional Japanese tattoo art, particularly during periods when artists worked with a limited selection of pigments. Its warm tone, sitting between red and orange, provides a timeless appearance that complements both bold outlines and subtle black and grey shading.
Horitomo recommends combining Shu with Horitomo Bengara and the Horitomo Sumi Set to recreate the authentic, aged appearance associated with traditional Japanese tattoo compositions. Together, these colours produce a restrained yet striking palette inspired by the historical roots of irezumi.
